FWQAL 4 and Giveaway!

First off, I will give you an update on the Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-Long.  This is my fourth week, and I completed three more blocks.  Above is [18] Century of Progress.  Like a few others in the flickr pool, I changed the design to make it a little more symmetrical.  Each color has 8 parts instead of 2 having 6 and 10 parts. I used some more Venice fabric, plus Amy Butler moondots in orange and the pink is Freespirit Beads in Fuschia.   Hardly a point matches in the entire square, and I think I am okay with that today.

Next is [17] Cats & Mice in the Beads in Fuschia, plus a gray floral from Moda's Sun Kissed line and the gray elephants from Daiwabo.

Finally we have [20] Churn Dash in Heather Ross Mendocino with the octopus, Amy Butler something out of print in Duck Egg and more AB Moondots and Venice.  Not entirely happy with the color selection here, but not unhappy enough to get the seam ripper out!

Now, on to the giveaway.  The problem with online, late-night shopping is that sometimes you forget what you have already ordered and end up with multiple patterns.  Well, it's never happened before, but it did this time!

So First Prize are two patterns by Leisl Gibson from here Lisette line.  Both are the larger sizes (14-22 - you can check measurements on the list, but in my experience they are usually not as generous as mass-manufactured sizings - I normally wear an 8 and at the point of ordering I thought this was the correct set to buy).  The patterns are   Market Dress, Tunic, Skirt and Blouse and Portfolio Dress, Tunic and Pant

You will also get 2 yards of the Red Medallion print cotton lawn fabric from the Lisette line from JoAnn's.

Second Prize is one pattern (Portfolio Dress) and 1 yard of Red Medallion.

To enter, please leave a comment telling me your favorite pattern to sew for yourself, or if you've never sewn for yourself before.  Leave a bonus comment if you are a follower.

I'll pick two winners at random on Friday morning.  Comments will close Friday at 8am EST.

Okay, and we'll end on the Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-long Quote of the Week, from Mrs. C.R.M. in Ramsey County ND:
"Would I want a daughter of mine to marry a farmer?  Yes, indeed!  If she chooses a poor man, better a farmer than a common laborer.  If a wealthy man is to be her choice, why not have a beautiful country home?"

  1. I haven't sewn anything for myself for years but coincidentally I've been eyeing up the Lisette pattern on the right after reading great reviews of it!

  2. I have a summer dress waiting to be cut out and sewn. This particular dress doesn't have them, but as a general rule I'm a huge fan of princess lines in dresses and tops =)

  3. Oh, what a delicious giveaway. I keep ogling that market dress pattern.

I had never sewn clothes for myself until I signed up for a pattern drafting class at Whipstitch. Now I'm working on refining the most perfect fitting t-shirt I will ever own. And I bought the OOP Simplicity 3835, which will be next on my list of things to make for myself. Unless, of course, I win your prize.

    Thanks for the chance.

  5. I've not really sewn for myself. I made a purse (Buttercup) for myself once.

  6. I tried sewing a dress for myself out of Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing book and the sizing was all wrong. With my fiance's help (he was a trooper pinning while the dress was on me), we made it wearable, but it's made me gun-shy. I've heard really good things about the Lisette patterns and I'm ready to give it another try!

  10. I'm just learning to sew but my sisters and I really love the Cynthia Rowley patterns. I'm a mere collaborator, if i want my sisters to make me something I have to cut out the fabric all on my own lol.

  13. Haha I actually have two favorite patterns to make for myself . . . the first is an Elizabethan smock I found online, where you can put in your measurements and it tells you what you need to cut out, fabric-wise. And the second is this pair of pajama pants with pockets. lol They fit well, which is always a problem for me, as I have "generous" hips and I am long-waisted to boot. :)

  23. I haven't made anything for myself for a long time. Lately I have enjoyed making things for my small grand children. I like the look of 'Portfolio'. Simple, practical pieces that could easily be mixed and matched. Perhaps I will start sewing for me again!
