Lots of Cutting...

not much sewing.

It's just been one of those weeks.  The kids have spent way too much time together lately and have been bickering like an old married couple.  For some reason no one has seemed to be able to get any good shut eye for more than one night consecutively.  So when they are finally in bed I've been too worn out to do much.  However, I have been cutting.

First 5" charm squares in a fall color palette.  This is going to be our fall family quilt.  Charlotte has awesome fall weather and I can see taking this getting a lot of use outside.  First I was worried about having too many "cutesie" prints in there, then I decided it was my quilt and I was going to put my favorites in, many of which are Heather Ross.  I got a ton of squares cut, but hardly made any progress getting them sewn together.  Once I get some time/energy I think it will go by pretty quickly!

Coincidentally, I read about the Celebrate Color series on Rachel's blog, Stitched in Color, today and I think this will fit right in.  After all, I chose my color palette by trying to decide what looked like fall to me.  Now we'll see if I can make it in time to submit it in the contest for September, October, or November!

My second cutting spree was for the Across the Sea Quilt-a-long over at Ellison Lane Quilts.  I am waiting for my background fabric and 3 more patterned fabrics to finish cutting all the pieces, but at least I made a dent in it.  This quilt is destined for someone special with a Halloween birthday, so another quilt with the time ticking away on me!  Luckily, the quilt-a-long approach always makes me feel like I need to keep up! And, I figure if it gets close to deadline I can always do a solid colored backing to make it go faster.

Speaking of Quilt-a-longs, you may have noticed my weekly Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-long update is missing.  Mainly because there is no update.  Hey, I did six blocks last week, I deserve a break!

Okay, gotta run, those kids are definitely not sleeping up there...

  1. That is lots of cutting. I am glad I saw the celebrate color post- I had missed it earlier (my reader is way too full!)

Make sure you read the cutting directions on the QAL correctly- there had been a typo (for the background fabric only.) and I fixed it but just wanted to clarify. :)

    Enjoy your company this weekend!
