do. Good Stitches October

This month for the do. Good Stitches bee our circle, Joy, was tasked with creating Rectangle Squared blocks in shades of greens and blues.  We used a variation of this tutorial by Ashley of Film in the Fridge.

As I've mentioned before, I love the do.  Good Stitches bee not just for the helping people in need of comfort aspect, but also for selfish reasons too.  I think it's a great way to break out of whatever is holding you back.  Colors you don't normally use, block patterns you would not think of trying.  Sometimes you are really glad you only need to make two blocks, for this one I really could see myself doing a whole quilt like this!  That is quite a bonus effect.  Adding it to my mental list of quilts to make.

I also just read this discussion on flickr from Elaine of Dashasel Sews.  It turns out her beautiful photo of the slanted diamonds quilt will be making an appearance at the International Quilt Market in the Eye of the Quilter: Friendship exhibit.  I think this bee and these quilts perfectly embody friendship, and I am so glad her photo was accepted.

For November our Joy Circle is making this Mod Circles quilt in coral, aqua and yellow with a Kona Ash background.  Should be lovely!

  1. I just made my October blocks last night-- it will be fun to see how this whips up! And yes, it's neat that our work will be featured at IQM!
