Friendship Quilts Blog Hop - Zippy Pouch
If you are coming over for the Friendship Quilt Blog Hop, thanks so much for visiting!
I love the eighties! Do you love the eighties? Then you will love the Friendship Quilt Blog Hop (plus, who doesn't like awesome prizes!). When Diane, of from blank pages, contacted me with the premise of this blog hop, I was flooded with memories of listening to U2's Joshua Tree on my walkman, clipboard propped up on my knee, knotting away at the colorful strands of floss in my latest friendship bracelet.
Here's a close up of the polaroid. I know I have some much better 80's pictures of us and I am heading to my mom's house to find one for you this afternoon. Pinafores aren't quite what you think of when you hear 80's photo linky, I know.
I decided to make Melissa a little zippy pouch in highlighter colors with some Essex linen in gray. Of course I used my new favorite, Ed Emberley Squiggles in Gray from Could 9 fabrics to line it. I made a friendship bracelet style zipper pull (I first thought of this during the Pretty {little} Pouch Swap here). I can still make a friendship bracelet, my knot tying skills are not quite up to par!
That herringbone inset is just rectangles sewn in a herringbone pattern, which I thought kind of resembled some of the bracelets we used to make.
I couldn't resist a little BFF Embroidery. I used the same thick Auriful thread by hand that I used in the machine for the quilting line above & below the herringbone inset. Very cool thread!
Melissa is now an amazing mom to three adorable little blonde boys. I am fortunate that although we live far apart, we get to see them on their way to and from the beach every summer. So I was able to give Melissa her pouch in person Saturday. Great timing! I did a poor job of getting photos during this visit (hey, 5 boys 5 and under, is pretty hectic!) but here they all are last year. Hers are the blondes!
This year I made the boys bucket hats, but did not get a photo of them in it : (

I chose to make a pouch for my lifelong friend, Melissa. Our moms were college roommates, Delta Gamma sorority sisters at Penn State, and our two families have been as thick as thieves since then.
This is Melissa in the middle, with her brother on the left and me on the right in 1982.
