March Bee Blocks

I am trying to get all of my March sewing must-dos finished before next week and Sew South!  I finished my bee blocks over the last few days.

For our Haven Circle in do. Good Stitches, we were making star and snowball or pinwheel blocks.  I chose to use my Sizzix die cutter with my 3.5" finished Half Square Triangle die to make two 12.5" blocks.

I love how my Sizzix die cuts the HST's with the dog ears already cut, so there is no trimming after you sew the triangles together.  It makes  a nice, neat block:

I find it much easier to match up points when I press the seams open, but I feel like I end up spending as much time pressing as I do sewing.  I usually just finger press the seams open and don't actually use the iron until the block is all finished.

This month in our Sewn Together Bee we are making Tiki Hut blocks for Linda.  These were so much fun to make!  My month is next month and I really want a low volume quilt.  I made this example, and you can see how much I am enjoying that HST die for the Sizzix! but I am going to tweak my color choices a bit so the diamond shape stands out more, or try a new design.

Now time to work prepping everything I need for my Sew South classes!  I am pretty psyched for this retreat and really happy it is in my town.  I am not staying at the hotel, so I just hope I have the energy to get to (and stay awake for) some of the evening sewing free time sessions!

Have a great weekend!!! xo,  Courtney

  1. I was almost going to sew south I hope you have a blast -- many of my guild sisters will be going. I was about to pick up a transfer ticket this week but my hubs reminded me we couldn't afford the hotel and the ticket at this time.
