Weekly Journal #7

We spent the weekend geeking out in the Wizarding World at Universal Studios.  Butterbeer, wand tricks, raiding Honeydukes and the amazing new ride Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure were totally worth an eight hour drive each way! Luckily, we had some great audiobooks (more on those later this week), and Dad did all the driving which left me free to read from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, our current family read aloud.

What I'm reading: I've long been a fan of Teacher Tom, and see him as kind of a modern day Mr. Rogers.  He works diligently to share his observations of children as amazing, whole human beings.  In this standout article, he explains how children naturally incorporate STEM into their day, without any boring rote memorization or adults needed.

What I'm cooking:  Four out of five of us loved this Leek and Potato Soup and couldn't get enough. One of us is a very picky six year old. We served it with a salad and topped it with chives, bacon and shredded cheese.

What I'm listening to:  It's time again! I've loved Jimmy Fallon since he first appeared, unpolished and dorky, on SNL and I adore his Classroom Instrument jams with the Roots. I've also loved Mariah since I first heard her in seventh grade and this song in my favorite movie of all time, Love Actually. I don't think it's physically possible to watch it and not have a smile on your face.  If it didn't do it for you read some comments commending her on providing signing services for the hearing impaired (And if you loved the video, do yourself a favor and watch Jimmy & The Roots do Take on Me with Wheezer).
