Family Favorites: Roxaboxen

You all probably have figured out that picture books have a special place in my heart.  The gorgeous pictures, the beautiful stories, the carefully curated text, it all just gets me.  I had so much fun sharing our family's holiday favorites I thought I'd extend the joy a little to make this a regular feature here on the blog.

For the inaugural post, I had to choose Roxaboxen.  The picture of my oldest son reading it to his little brothers really shows how beloved this book is in our home.  The story is so relate-able and yet so magical.  It's just a group of neighborhood kids that set up a little village of "houses"they make from rocks and discarded items.  My kids do this all the time, do yours?  The story gives them even more inspiration as it describes the mayor, the system of currency, the jail and the raids.  The part that really gets me is the ending and how even though the children are all grown up Roxaboxen is still there.  If this isn't a part of your home library I strongly suggest you add this imaginative book!
