Family Favorites: A Sweetheart for Valentine
I have a special family favorite picture book to share with you today - A Sweetheart for Valentine by Lorna Balian. This book was probably my most favorite book when I was around the age of 4 and I am so glad my mom saved it for me. I remember looking at the pictures for hours. I was tickled to see it still in print.
The story begins when the villagers find an enormous baby girl and decide to raise her together. They have their work cut out for them as she grows so quickly it is all the can do to keep her fed and clothed. In no time at all she grows too large for all the houses in the village, so they plan her a house of vines and sunflowers to grow with her. The whole village loves her so, and although she has so many little brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents, she longs for someone of her own. She floods the village with her tears before a young giant man comesalong. After a rocky start, they slowly begin to warm to each other.
If you grew up with this book as well, I hope you enjoyed a little trip down memory lane. If not, I hope you'll check it out and share it with your family.
