Songbird Pillow

Considering I have not changed the pillow in my living room since I made the Mr. Darcy Sentiment Pillow for Valentine's Day, Celebrate Color was just the push I needed to get to work.  I  needed something more fall-ish, but orange and red aren't quite right in my house, so I chose to take the "earthier" fall color route with tan and taupe and brown.

I saw the Botanika line from Paula Prass and knew the colors would be perfect in my home.  I have a lot of neutrals and aquas.  I bought several half yards of the fabric, hoping to find something great for a pillow focal point in the Wing Study fabric.  I did.  In the dead center of the cut.  Ouch.  It hurts to make a cut like that, but I reminded myself that I bought the fabric to do this.  And it is a great fussy cut print, so I'll probably be cutting the rest of it up in similar fashion.

From there I added some of the other fabrics in the line and natural colored linen.

I added some pretty silk ribbons by stitching them down on the linen with a decorative stitch.  Then I got to the fun part.  Quilting and embroidering.  I still feel like I need to pick up a few beads to sew on the little crown.

I used an invisible zipper, so the pillow reverses to Mod Lattice in Pastille (also Paula Prass' Botanika).

And I just have to show you my chair.  A few years ago I had been drooling over a chair & ottoman set in Pottery Barn that had these box pleated skirts.  I have a wonderful re-upholstery guy outside of Charlotte that my family has been using for years.  I gave him a lot of taupe fabric, an old wing chair & mismatched ottoman and he did it perfectly (and touched up all the wood).  Of course, two kids later, it could use an iron or steamer or something.  Not sure how that works, and to be perfectly honest, will probably never ponder that point again.  Some things are just good enough...

Okay, the crumpled curtain panels don't even look good enough for my low standards.  Anyone have a steamer thing-y they like?
